Gene Genie (Sir Real's 2004 club mix)

about

My original version of Gene Genie (which samples heavily, if obscurely, from Kool & the Gang) was released way back in 1998 on a 12" vinyl compilation on Round Records, the 'Round Sampler 2'. It also featured the following year on 'Round Squared: Weirdbag volume 1', a compilation CD. It was quite popular at the time, and always went down well 'on the floor', even though it featured an incredibly disorientating horn break in the middle! In 2004 I decided I wanted to make a heavier, more 'club-friendly' version. This is the result. It samples shamelessly from the astounding 'Here again' by Mark Summers, but only in passing, so hopefully I'll get away with it hahaha
